The NZ Investor 1 and Investor 2 visas are no longer available for application. We are excited to introduce the new Active Investor Plus Visa, which offers a streamlined and flexible pathway for investing in New Zealand.
Upon meeting the requirements for the investment period the applicant can obtain permanent residence which has no further requirements or stay obligations (permanent residence in New Zealand is for life). The application can include dependent children up to and including age 24.

Age: No age limit
Experience: No requirement
Total Investment: Minimum NZD $5,000,000 to $15,000,000 to be invested in stages over 48 months
English Proficiency: IELTS 5.0 / PTE 36 (or other evidence including study in English)
Time in New Zealand: 117 days over the 4-year investment period for the principal applicant only
Benefits
The Active Investor Plus is a residence visa. This entitles the applicant and their family (spouse and dependent children up to 24 years of age) to benefits such as healthcare, education subsidies, and other perks normally available to New Zealand residents. After the 48-month investment period, applicants can obtain permanent residence (for life with no further requirements), or citizenship after 5 years.
Investment Options
The investment can be made in stages over a period of 48 months. Below are examples of different types of investment and the amount that needs to be invested at various stages:
Listed Equities
0-18 months: NZD $1,000,000
18-36 months: NZD $6,500,000
36-48 months: NZD $2,500,000 in direct investments OR NZD $3,750,000 in managed funds
Managed Funds
0-18 months: NZD $500,000
18-36 months: NZD $3,250,000
36-48 months: NZD $3,750,000
Direct Investments
0-18 months: NZD $100,000
18-36 months: NZD $2,400,000
36-48 months: NZD $2,500,000
Holding Investment: The funds to be later invested must be held in NZ in government bonds, term deposits, or bank deposits until transferred to the acceptable investments at 18 and 36 months.
Different combinations of investments are possible. The examples provided above are where applicants align with one investment type. The minimum investment possible is NZD $5,000,000 where the investment is solely in direct investments.
