The Investor 1 and 2 visas are residence visas – this entitles the applicant to benefits such as healthcare, education subsidies and other benefits normally available to New Zealand residents.
Upon meeting the requirements for the investment period the applicant can obtain permanent residence which has no further requirements or stay obligations (permanent residence in New Zealand is for life). The application can include dependent children up to and including age 24.
Investor 1
Applicants must invest NZD $10,000,000 for 3 years and in a range of investment choices. No age, English or investment/business experience requirements apply. A minimum stay requirement of 88 days during the 3 year period applies.
Investor 2
Applicants must invest NZD $3,000,000 (this can be reduced by $500,000 for property / growth investments) for 4 years and in a range of investment choices. Applicants must have a basic level of English (equivalent to IELTS 3) and at least 3 years of management or business experience. A minimum stay requirement of 438 days during the 4 year period applies.
For both the Investor 1 and 2 visas, applicants can invest in a wide range of investments including:
- Government bonds
- Corporate bonds (issued by NZ firms meeting specific requirements)
- Bank bonds
- Finance company bonds
- Public and private equity in New Zealand firms
- Equity in New Zealand banks
- Managed funds and venture capital funds
- Residential property development(s)
- Commercial property
- Philanthropic investment
- ‘Angel funds or networks’ investments
